If you love gaming and streaming on your PlayStation 4, you will freak out when you get a Playstation VPN. With a Virtual Private Network, your PS4 can tap into massive amounts of restricted content like the US Netflix catalogue. With a VPN for PlayStation 4 you can play more games and access titles before they are officially released in your country.
At vpnxon.com, we have tested several VPNs, in search of the fastest VPNs for Playstation. We know that for gaming and streaming in HD, not any VPN service will do. This is because you need a VPN with extremely fast connections speeds.
Nonetheless, it still manages to annoy and frustrate gamers when they encounter region-restricted gaming titles, gameplay lag, and hackers roaming scot-free on gaming servers. The way out of these annoyances is offered by PS4 VPN that benefit gamers in many ways.
In this blog, you will learn how to set up a VPN for PS4 and how it can improve your gameplay, security, and overall access to media services and gaming titles.
What is a Playstation 4 VPN?
VPN services are software that can change the IP address of users as visible to the outside world. Of course, there is no actual change in IP addresses taking place, but for all appearances on the web, your location is changed.
This digital trickery has several effects that benefit the end-user. For one, it will allow you to gain access to geo-restricted services and stream since you now appear to be accessing the web from a new location.
Secondly, a good VPN encrypts user traffic, which solidifies your security, making it much more difficult for hackers to fool around with your confidential information.
A PS4 VPN works efficiently with Sony’s gaming console and grants users access to services, titles, and online gaming servers that might otherwise be unavailable in their region. For instance, Netflix US, Amazon Prime, HBO and Hulu etc. offer only a limited library of content for regions outside of the United State.
Unblock Playstation 4 (PS4) Outside US With Best VPN
There are various ways you can follow to unblock PlayStation 4 outside the United State. The method you choose depends on what you have at hand. Here are the methods are highlighted below.
Set up Playstation 4 VPN via your Mac
If you hate running your entire home network through a VPN, another method is to use a Mac and an Ethernet cable, if you have got both to hand. Make sure your Mac has an Ethernet port and WIFI adapter and is in range of your console. Sign up to a VPN provider too, we recommend NordVPN. Here are the steps:
Step 1 ====> Install the VPN software of your choice.
Step 2 ====> Plug an Ethernet cable into the back of your Mac and the PS4.
Step 3 ====> Now go to System Preferences ====> Sharing and select Internet Sharing from the list on the left-hand side.
Step 4 ====> From the ‘Share your connection from’ drop-down menu, select WIFI.
Step 5 ====> From the ‘To computers using’ list, make sure Ethernet is marked.
Step 6 ====> Check the box to the left of Internet Sharing on the list to enable the sharing of your internet connection between your Mac and PS4. A green icon will be displayed if successful.
Step 7 ====> Then, open the VPN software on your Mac and connect to your chosen server.
Step 8 ====> Now on your PlayStation 4, go to Settings ====> Network Settings ====> Set Up Internet Connection ====> Use a LAN Cable and select the Easy connection method. This will automatically scan and set up your Ethernet connection.
Step 9 ====> Select Do Not Use a Proxy Server when prompted.
Step 10 ====> You can test your internet connection if you want, and if all has gone well, your PS4 should now be connected to the internet via a VPN.
Set Up PS4 VPN via Your WIFI Router
The simplest way to use a VPN on your PS4 is to set up a VPN on your WIFI router. There are two ways that you can do this:
1. You can buy one of the newer WIFI routers that have built-in VPN access from the likes of NordVPN. It is a little costly, but itis by far the easiest way to use a VPN on your console (and any other device connected to your home WIFI too)
2. You can also get a VPN subscription and manually input the VPN details in your WIFI router settings. The issue is that depending on the VPN provider and the brand of WIFI router, the steps vary, meaning it is almost impossible for us to explain how to do it.
NordVPN is our choice so is a good option if you want to do this rather than buying a router with a built-in VPN. It has lots of tutorials about how to do it on your particular router on its website.
Set up PS4 VPN via your PC
This is another way to connect to a VPN on your PS4, PC. It is essentially the same method as connecting with a Mac but utilises the Windows equivalent of Internet Sharing. As with above, make sure you have signed up to a VPN provider, but again our VPN of choice is NordVPN.Here are the steps:
Step 1 ====> Install the VPN software of your choice on your PC.
Step 2 ====> Plug an Ethernet cable into the back of your PC and the PS4.
Step 3 ====> Then, open Control Panel ====> Network and Sharing Center and select Change Adaptor Settings on the left-hand side of the window.
Step 4 ====> Now right-click on the icon with the title of your chosen VPN and click Properties.
Step 5 ====> Open the sharing tab and make sure Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection is selected.
Step 6 ====> From here select Home Networking Connection and select the home internet connection from the drop-down menu that you would like to share with your PS4.
Step 7 ====> On your PS4, go to Settings ====> Network Settings ====> Set Up Internet Connection ====> Use a LAN Cable and select the Easy connection method. This will automatically scan and set up your Ethernet connection.
Step 8 ====> Now select Do Not Use a Proxy Server when prompted.
Step 9 ====> Now you can test your internet connection if you want, and if all has gone well, your PS4 should now be connected to the internet via a VPN.
